Description: The photograph shows the front exterior of the first courthouse in Hancock County. The two-story frame structure has 8/12 windows, five on the second floor and four on the first floor. Just to the right of the front door is an Ohio Historical Marker that reads: “First Courthouse of Hancock County. This ‘temporary courthouse’ was authorized by the county commissioners in 1831, completed in 1833 and in use until 1842. The building then served many functions such as a school, church, hotel, dentist office, store and residence. It has been moved twice, 1862 and 1913, from its original location on the southwest corner of South Main and West Crawford Streets. First County Court Session, March 14, 1828. First Court of Common Pleas, June, 1828. First Lawyer, Edson Goit, June, 1828. First Courthouse, 1833. Second Courthouse, 1842. Description: The woodlands near Fort Necessity in the Findlay area. This fort was built by the order of General William Hull. His army of nearly 2000 men rested here and made paper cartridge before moving north with a slow wagon train to Detroit. It consisted of a block house and stockade and served no function. Description: The Bicentennial barn-painting program was an inexpensive, grassroots marketing campaign that painted the official logo of the Ohio Bicentennial on a highly visible historic barn in each of Ohio's 88 counties. Over 2,000 farmers and landowners submitted their barn descriptions to the committee for consideration. Beginning in 1998, artist Scott Hagan spent five years painting the logos, tailored to every barn's unique character. Typically, the barn owners hosted a celebration at the completion of their barn painting. This photograph is an exterior view of Barn #15, the 15th barn that Hagan painted, located at 20442 US 224 East in Hancock County. View on Ohio Memory.

Description: Small porphyry birdstone is of the pop-eye type. Eyes are round and flare out, projecting 13 mm from the head. The head ends in a tapering wedge shape with a flat bottom. The body is broad, round and relatively flat. The tail tapers straight out from the body to a rounded wedge shape. The base is carved into a saddle shape, suggesting two sets of legs. Holes are drilled through the ridges. The birdstone is black with phenocrysts (crystals) of light brown. Although the function of birdstones is unknown, they might have served as highly-decorative spearthrower weights. Item was found in Hancock County, Ohio. View on Ohio Memory.
